You know how you might make friends with a foreigner and they'll say something like "if you are ever in my country you should come visit - I would love to let you stay at my place!"?

And you know how they are usually just being polite and don't actually expect you to go halfway around the world and ask for a couch to crash on?

Well - ha to that! that's exactly what I intend to do!

I made sure to finish most of my work at the UA by the end of the December and had the research spot set in Xi'an to begin in March. That left me with 2 months to basically wander around Europe looking for people who'd be nice enough to let me hang out for a while. It didn't quite work out exactly how I planned but, then again, actually turned out better in a lot of ways.

I started out in Istanbul and hopped onto quite a few trains and quite a few more hairy situations. By the time those two months were over, as you can see on my map below, I carved a pretty good path through much of Europe. I've got much written
