My repeat visit to China had a variety of motivations. Officially, I wanted to experience the graduate research life of a student at a reputable Chinese university. Unofficially, I had a helluva lot of fun in 2008 and really wanted to experience this country shaking off the dust of a stagnant society and really this was the best way to keep studying Chinese language.

I was able to stay at Xi'an Jiaotong University (西安交通大學）for just under three months. In that time I had the opportunity to attend an engineering conference in Suzhou, sightsee all the historic places in Xi'an, and hike up some of the more famous mountains near town.
